New York Fashion Week is back and feeling more normal than it was for the past two year. Celebrities’ appearances and runaways filled with top models are combined with digital presentations, as covid restrictions are still in place.

New York Fashion Week A/W 2022 is a celebration of successes for some brands that were bold enough to launch during the pandemic. For some it paid off. But the show is also missing some major stars like Tom Ford’s show who moved to Paris Fashion Week.

Despite the game of chairs, it is still a must follow, as some of the fall/winter trends are already in place. Take a look of some of the takeaways of the first 2022’s New York Fashion Week.

LUXY AND DETAILED FABRICS

New York is where you find clothes that look like clothes. The long term relationship with sportswear may have simplify the American design. But who doesn’t want an easy to wear outfit?

The trick is to make it stand out with extremely luxury fabrics and detailed finishes. The right width and proportions, inner pocket fabrics, a perfect seam and bold buttons all lead to a sex appealed outfit.

TAKING CARE OF ALL THE SENSES

Fashion Weeks are a reign for visuals. And more. This year the other senses were also the protagonists. Invites send with incense, fragrances invaded digital shows and even body oils in goody bags.

But the winner was Brandon Maxwell homage to his grandmother’s cooking, with models snacking during the show. There was also place for sound performances, with tap dancers and drummers that leveled up the drama during the showcases.

Pantone’s shade 17-3938, Very Peri is the color of 2022. And the color of New York Fashion Week. The hue made appearances on several shows and even of celebrity guests.

Meanwhile, Pantone revealed the color trends for Fall 2022. That includes neutral, like ivory and beiges to bold colors like neon orange, emerald green and golden yellow.

THE DENIM REVENGE

America’s (and maybe world’s) favorite piece of clothing got a deluxe approach. Suitable for work or play, night or day, denim appeared with multiple ready to wear styles. Combined with provocative slashes, feather and satins are still the perfect must have for every wardrobe.

LEATHER IS STILL A THING

The love/hate fabric came in all forms, from trousers, biker jackets to trench coats. The star piece was an update to the classic with another trend: crochet. Designer Gabriela Hearst even provided editor with a detailed breakdown of CO2 units.
