How to have a minimalist style? A full guide

Minimalist style is the art of getting rid of the excessive clothes and have only the essential wardrobe pieces. It can make you feel lighter and refreshed. But can be a difficult task to choose the right fashion pieces. We prepared a full guide to have a minimalist style outfit.

WHAT IS A MINIMALIST STYLE?

Sustainable concerns are already in the fashion agenda. The water waste, toxic dyes, non-recycled fabrics and more disadvantages of fast fashion are making consumers question the need of a full wardrobe. Out of that, is emerging a new trend of minimalism style. For some it can be the key to a happier, lighter and sustainable life.

HOW TO BE A MINIMALIST?

If you are familiar with Marie Kondo you already know that we should keep only the things that brings us joy. This mindset is the first step to have a minimalist style: choose only clothes that will have a good impact on our life.

First go through you wardrobe and separate the clothes you want to keep, to donate or to give away. An easy way to do it is to start with the clothes you don’t use often. It can be liberating.

However, is as much important to not go back to the consumerism behavior. If you need/want to buy something new choose wisely. Make sure the clothes you are buying are sustainable (a good option are the thrifted shops) and that you’ll actually use it for a long time.

Before we start with some essentials on a minimalist wardrobe, there are three rules to keep in mind:

  • Minimalist doesn’t mean monotone. Keep some colorful choices.
  • Avoid throwing away the clothes you don’t want. Instead you can donate it, sell or gift.
  • There is no exact number of clothing to keep. The most important rule is to get rid of the excess.
